Lord Mahadev, also known as Shiva, is a major god in Hinduism. He plays a key role in the holy trinity with Brahma, the creator, and Vishnu, the preserver. In Shaivism, he is seen as the Supreme Being. Shiva represents strength, change, and letting go of attachments. People often worship him in the form of a Shiva Linga. He is known as the destroyer of evil and a force of universal change.

Shiva lives on Mount Kailash with his wife, Goddess Parvati, and their children—Ganesha and Kartikeya. His looks are special and easily recognizable. He has long, tangled hair, a crescent moon on his head, and the sacred Ganga flowing from his hair. His forehead bears a third eye, and his throat turned blue after drinking poison during the ocean’s churning, called Samudra Manthan.
